Preferences option in Rapidform XOR

File > Preferences… command allows you to manage global options that affect all the objects in the viewing window. The options are saved to the xrl file and may be used later.

Note

When you update the application, you can use previouse customized settings such as Template file, MaterialInfo.xmt, rfPreference.xpf, rfSpaceball.cfg or rfToolBarInfo.cfg. These files are located at ‘C:\Documents and Settings\PC name\My Documents\Rapidform the application’

When you start the application firstly you can see the “Initial Setup Dialog” box. You can select True or None of the usage of previous customized settings.in the Use Previous Version section.

To enable the Use Previous Version option, you shoud have files at the following location; ‘C:\Documents and Settings\PC name\My Documents\Rapidform Redesign’ .

You can import not all settings of toolbars but customized toolbars. The position of customized toolbars can not be imported and it is defaultly hidden.

How to use Preferences command

Select File > Preferences in the menu or click the icon vn2in the toolbar.
The following dialog box appears. Change the Background color to green in the Dialog Tree section in the Display tab.

Click Apply to see the change without closing this dialog box. You can see the color of dialog tree becomes green.

Options in Detail

You can save your own settings of preferences by clicking Export button and it will be saved as .xpf extension so you can use saved file by clicking Import button. If you click Default button, settings in preferences will be initialized.

Note

You can export your customized settings in preferences as xpf format using the Export button. It also can be imported using the Import button. When you click Reset button, the following lists in preferences will be initialized; Default Decimal Place, Default Measure Unit, Thousand Separators, all entities in the Display tab.

There are 5 tabs: General, Display, Tolerance, Hardware and File I/O

In General Tab:

l Enable Multi-thread– If this is set to true, it will speed up your modeling process.

l Template XRL File– Specifies the directory of the xrl file that is used as the template. Every time the application launches, the settings in the Template XRL File are used.

l Update Product Automatically – If set to True, whenever you launch the program, it will check if there are any update patches. If there are, it will automatically update the program with those patches.

l Cache Folder For Unloading and Backup– Specifies the directory for temporary file cache during each operation. Its default is the user’s temporary directory assigned in the system environment variables.

l Show Support At Startup – If it is True, Rapidform Online page will be shown whenever Rapidform is launched. If Rapidform Online Page is False, Rapidform Online page will not be shown when Rapidform is launched.

l View Manipulation Style – You can select one of the view manipulation style (zooming, panning, rotating) ; Rapidform, SolidWorks, UGS NX, Pro/E Wildfire, CATIA, PolyWorks, Geomagic.

l Zoom Center of Mouse Wheel Scroll – If it is True, When you zoom in or out using a mouse wheel, the zooming center will be the current position of the mouse cursor.

l Auto Save Reminder in Ever X Minutes – You can set automatic saving interval. Every sepecified minutes, you can meet the following dialog box;

l Undo Depth (times)– It is the maximum times you can backup a model.

l Default Decimal Place – Decides the number of digits after the decimal point. The range is between 1 and 10. For example, when a numerical value is 364.26935, if you set it as 3, only 364.269 is displayed in the viewing window.

l Default Input (Scanner) Unit decides what unit is used if there is no apparent unit in the file format. This unit is used in the Import as the default unit and you can change it when importing a foreign file. Default Measure Unit indicates in what unit the model will be displayed in the viewing area, dialogs and reports. By default, the units are determined by the ones within the first loaded file. Models loaded subsequently won’t affect the units. You can change Length and Angle after clicking on the corresponding row.

Note

The Default Input (Scanner) Unit is used for files that do not have an internal definition of units. This is different than the Default Measure Unit.

l Thousand Separators – Thousand Separator (a comma) separates thousands from hundreds within a number that has four or more places to the left of the decimal separator. If you want to use it for Real Value and Integer Value, set the value to True, otherwise set the value to False.

l Complete – You can specify sound used when command completes. If None is selected, no sound will be used. If Default Sound is selected, the default sound will be used. If User Defined is selected, you need to select one the sound file (.wav)

Break – You can specify sound used when one operation is broken. If None is selected, no sound will be used. If Default Sound is selected, the default sound will be used. If User Defined is selected, you need to select one the sound file (.wav).

Message – You can specify sound used when one message pops up. If None is selected, no sound will be used. If Default Sound is selected, the default sound will be used. If User Defined is selected, you need to select one the sound file (.wav)

In Display tab:

Under Draw Properties, you can set Selected Entity, Deactivate Selected Entity, Temporary Entity, Section Line, Highlight, Preview, Disable, User Defined Back Face Color, and Error. You also set the size of Edge With, Mesh Bounding Box Line With, Picked Points, Poly-vertex, Boundary, Selected Entity and Section Line. You also can set environment color of mesh.

Under Color Mesh, you can set Ambient, Diffuse, Specular or Shininess.

Under Dialog Tree–, to change the look of the Text in the dialog tree, you can choose a Font. Also you can set True or False in the Shadow box. If the value is True, the text is drawn with shadow. If the value is False, the text is drawn without shadow. You can set the colors for controls and background. To set the color for enabled controls, select a color in Control Enable row. To set a color for disabled controls, select a color in Control Disable row. To set a color for control’s background, select a color in Background row. To set a color for the dialog tree’s background, select a color in Background row. Also you can set the Transparency of the dialog tree. To set the transparency for controls, input a value in Control row. To set the transparency for the dialog tree’s background, input a value in Background row. The higher this value, the more transparent the corresponding entities. The range for these two values is 0 – 100.

Under Body, you can set Body Default Material, Edge’s Color and Size.

Under Ref. Geometry, you can set color of Points, Vector, Plane, Coordinate, Polyline and Fit Result. You also can set Point Size and Line Width,

Under 2DSketch, you can set the color of Constraint Under Defined, Constraint Full Defined, Constraint Over Defined, Select, Preselect, Dimension, Snap Aux Line, Snap Hint Entity, Polyline, Poline Preselect, Polyline Select, Polyline Undefined Type Segment, Polyline Line Type Segment, Polyline Circle Type Segment, Boundary Point, Applied Aux Tangent, Unapplied Aux Tangent. You also can set Entity Point Size, Polyline Line Width, Entity Line Width, Selected Polyline Point Size, Selected Polyline Width, Snap Aux Line Width, Boundary Point Size, Spline Tangent Line Width, Dimension Assist Line Over Length In Pixel, Dimension Arrow Length In Pixel, Dimension Arrow Height / Length Ratio, Spline Tangent Arrow Length In Pixel, Spline Tangent Arrow Height / Length Ratio,

Under 3DSketch, you can set the color of Curve, Curve Preview, Curve Node, Joined Node, Closed Curve End Node, Tangent, Nodes In Deform Range, Curve Deform Preview, Pencil Curve Preview, Curve Preview To Segment, Segment Curve Preview, Segment Curve End Points, Section Plane Preview, Section Curve Preview, Join Preview Circle, Constrained Tangent, Constrained Bode On Parent Entity, Constrained Curve By Convert or Import. You also can set Width, Curve Deform Range, Join Preview Circle, Curve Node Radius, Curve Preview Width, Segment Curve End Points.

Under Manipulator, you can set the color of X Axis, Y Axis, Z Axis, and Plane. You also can set the size of Scale, Snap Size.

Under Widget, you can set the text of Default, Dimension, ProfileView.

Under Accuracy Analyzer(TM), you can set the size of 2D Curve, 3D Curve, Line, and Point.

Under OpenGL, you can set adjust display of

Triangle Offset – This is a display offset value of triangle.

Line Offset – This is a display offset value of line.

Point Offset – This is a display offset value of point.

You can set the value ranging from -1.0 to 1.0. If you set the value as -1.0, this entity will be displayed near to you. If you set the value as 1.0, this entity will be displayed far from you.

In Tolerance tab:

l Under Mesh,

Outlier For Allowable Deviation (%) – While creating the fitting surface from mesh data, the application ignores poly-vertices which causes the largest deviation within the value keyed in here. Therefore after creating fitting surface, the area that exceeds the tolerance will be less than this value.

l Under Region,

Outlier For Geometry Type Checking (%) – When fitting mesh region to analytic geometry (i.e. plane, cylinder, cone, etc.), the application ignores poly-vertices which causes the largest deviation within the value keyed in here. Therefore after creating analytic geometry, the area that exceeds the tolerance will be less than this value. (cf. because this option is for geometry type of region)

Geometry Type Checking Tolerance (mm) – After removing outlier by the value of Outlier For Geometry Type Checking, the application tries to fit selected region to specific analytic geometry (i.e. plane, cylinder, cone, etc.). If maximum deviation is within this value, the application recognizes that analytic geometry.

Maximum Radius Of Analytic Region (mm) – When the application estimates selected region to be an analytic geometry, the application accepts the estimated analytic region if only its radius value is less than the value mentioned here or else the application ignores it. Therefore this value prevents the application from estimating the selected region to be a meaningless analytic geometry.

In Hardware tab:

l Under Processor Feature Setup

You can enable SSE2 (Streaming SIMD Extensions), SSE3 or SSSE3 which are provided by your CPU for the higher process. These optimized settings are automatically set by the application after installing or running the Performance Profiler (Help > Launce Performance Profiler).

l Under OpenGL Renderer Setup

Use Trackball Depth Average – It is used to calculate the rotation center in the model view.

Trackball Depth Average Resolution – It relates to the panning in the model view.

Frame Buffer Save/Restore – It relates to rendering and speed.

These optimized settings are automatically set by the application after installing or running the Performance Profiler (Help > Launce Performance Profiler).

l Under Scanner Direct Control

You can set your favorite scanners as True so that when you run Insert > Scanner Direct Control > liveScan(TM), you can see only favorite scanners in the Device pull down menu.

In File I/O tab:

l Under Default Import File Formats

You can set your favorite import format as True so that when you run Insert > Import, you can see only favorite import format in the Import dialog box.
