Cutting One Object by Faces of Objects

Notes:

  • If you are cutting with faces, you can only select one object to cut.
  • The cutting faces can also be individual faces (not attached to open or closed objects). See Cutting an Object by Individual Faces.
  • When cutting by more than one face, all selected faces must be continuous.

Required Step 1

Pick one object (open or closed) to be cut. In this case, pick the magenta object. Press exit when the object is selected.cmt35

Required Step 2

Set the Cut parameters as required and pick the face(s) of the object you wish to use as the cutting entity. (You can use the Selection Filter to enable you to select faces.) In this case, select the five continuous faces of the top surface of the blue object.

Important: The faces selected as the dividing tool must be continuous.

A blue arrow appears on the first face you select. The arrow direction indicates the side that will be cut. You can flip the direction by clicking the arrow. Press exit when the faces are selected and the direction is correct.cmt36

Press OK  or Apply  in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

The top of the object is cut.cmt37

To get a better view of the results of this function, move the blue object. The magenta object was only cut above the selected blue faces, the rest of the blue solid does not cmt38affect the results.

When completed, the Cut appears in the Feature Tree as follows:cmt39
