Along mode (Relative Position ribbon bar)
|The Select button on the Relative Position ribbon bar activates the Along mode. This mode allows you to create a new entity along an existing entity. In Along mode, you will be prompted to select a line, arc, or spline. Select the entity at a position nearest to the endpoint from which you will specify the along length. When you select one of these entities, the Delta, Distance, and Angle fields will become inactive and you will be prompted to enter a length value.
In Along mode, AutoCursor will be inactive. Your cursor will not snap to existing points (midpoints, endpoints, center points, and quadrant points) and the Visual Cues will not show existing conditions. To select the point to which you want your new entity to be relative, click the entity close to that point.
- If the entity you are selecting has been broken into multiple arc or line segments, the segment that you hover your cursor over will highlight. You then click the segment closest to the endpoint to which you want your new point to be relative.
- When you select closed arcs (circles), the endpoint used for calculation will always be the 0 degree quadrant point. If you click the circle anywhere in the bottom half, your distance from the zero point will be calculated in a clockwise direction. If you click the circle anywhere in the top half, your distance from the 0 quadrant point will be calculated in a counter clockwise direction. The graphic below of a two inch diameter circle shows a point position that was created by clicking on the upper half of the circle and entering .5 in the Length field. Hold your mouse over the graphic to see where the point is positioned if the same length was entered, but the circle was selected by clicking on the lower half of the circle.
